Before becoming a three-time Super Bowl champion, Patrick Mahomes played multiple sports and was stellar at baseball.

The Texas native was a star baseball pitcher in high school and even played the sport in college before focusing on football and not looking back.

This week, Mahomes wanted to display his baseball pitching form on the NFL practice field as the Chiefs posted an X clip of the three-time MVP throwing to a teammate.

Mahomes started his windup and put both hands behind his head while holding on to the football.

The signal-caller put his hands down, started his leg kick and slightly moved his front section in the opposite direction of his target.

Mahomes then went back to his normal pitching angle and awkwardly threw the ball to the chest of safety Nazeeh Johnson.

Fans mocked the quarterback’s pitching technique on social media.

“I think that’s a balk,” one commented.

Stick to football,” another wrote.

“That’s a Charles Barkley golf-style throw,” a third posted.

Mahomes had grown up being around baseball thanks to his father, Mahomes Sr.

The dad was a reliever for the Minnesota Twins when the future NFL star was 𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧 in 1992.

The youngster Mahomes was able to be close to the league’s stars in the dugouts.

Being around the MLB dugouts helped lead him to play shortstop growing up.

Mahomes played for his Tyler, Texas team in the 2010 Junior League World Series.

In high school, he transitioned to the pitcher’s mound where he topped out at 97 miles per hour on his fastball.

Mahomes was ranked as a No. 133 right-handed pitcher in high school and was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 37th round of the 2014 MLB Draft.

But he had already signed to play football for the Texas Tech Raiders.

Mahomes played baseball and football for the college in his freshman and sophomore years.

He decided to leave baseball to focus on football ahead of his junior season, and the rest would be history.

Mahomes was drafted by the Chiefs in the first round in the 2017 NFL Draft after posting 41 touchdowns with Texas Tech the year prior.

He won his first Super Bowl in the 2019-20 season.

The 28-year-old eventually signed a 10-year deal worth up to $503 million and currently has three MVPs and Super Bowl titles on his resume.

Mahomes is expected to participate in Day 2 of the mandatory minicamp on Wednesday.

The Chiefs begin training camp in late July as they go for their three-peat quest.
