Warriors former player furious with Canada Olympic omission as camp roster includes Andrew Wiggins

The Golden State Warriors have brought in countless successful players over the last few seasons, all of whom seem to have some sort of edge to them or unique set of accomplishments in their respective leagues. Scoring guard Cory Joseph is one of them. Joseph is a native of Toronto, Ontario, Canada and now plays for the Indiana Pacers. Recently, Joseph got news on his potential invite to Team Canada for the Summer Olympics that had him feeling preturbed.

The news came amid Klay Thompson deciding to train with Team Bahamas amid free agency rumors. Warriors young gun Brandin Podziemski shared the unique advice he received from NBA finalist Luka Doncic.

According to a report from Michael Grange on Twitter, Andrew Wiggins got the nod to join Team Canada’s senior team, but the ex-Warrior Joseph did not.

Joseph expected to get a training camp invite according to Grange’s post but did not. Joseph said he’s “mad” about the snub and he has a right to be mad about it based on the information he was given prior to it happening.

“I don’t want to get into all of that,” Joseph said to Sportsnet Canada, “I listened to it and obviously I’m mad about it, and feel like I have a right to be mad about it, but it is what it is. I can’t remember the explanation they gave, to be honest with you.”

Joseph’s Impact on NBA So Far

The 6-foot-3, 193 pound Joseph has averaged 6.9 points so far over the course of his NBA career. He played his college ball with the Texas Longhorns. Joseph has shot nearly 35 percent from three-point land and 44 percent from the field while dishing out three assists and grabbing 2.5 rebounds per game.

Joseph joined the Warriors in 2023-2024 after three years with the Detroit Pistons. He became a teammate of Andrew Wiggins and averaged 2.4 points for the Dubs, in his lowest-scoring campaign since the 2011-2012 season.

While Joseph never quite reached star status, he has become an explosive scoring guard who can provide instant offense off the bench or as a spot starter.

Fans React to Team Canada News Ahead of 2024 Summer Olympics

Fans reacted strongly to the Joseph and Wiggins news in the comments on X.

“This seems – being kind – in poor taste given the history of Wiggins ducking the team and Cory doing the opposite,” one reader said.

“Bad vibes already and we’re still a month away (from the Olympics),” another fan added.

Canada is in Group A with Greece, Spain and Australia for the 2024 Olympic games in Paris this summer.
