Max Homa Urges Fans to See the ‘Lighter Side’ of Tiger Woods’s TGL After Outrage Over $160 Tickets

Spending nearly $200 for an indoor event? Sounds crazy, right? We are sure most of the golf community reacted this way when they got to know the steep prices of TGL. Well, let’s break it down: it’s exactly $160 to watch golf legend Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, and other top-class Tour pros swing at a screen indoors starting January 2025. Are you willing to pay that much? Per Max Homa, you should.

TGL has been a much-awaited league in the golf world, it was supposed to go hit the market earlier this year, and a damaged ceiling pushed that too early 2025. Sure, fans are excited but that does not mean they are willing to shed $160. Max Homa adores Tiger Woods and is a fanboy. He is also his TGL teammate as they are part of Jupiter Links GC, and is urging fans to see things from a different perspective.

The PGA Tour pro is currently in Japan, playing at Zozo Championship. He spoke to the media there and defended the costly admission, promising a fresh, fun side of the players. When the golfer was asked what could be expected from the upcoming TGL event, he said, “I expect there to be more banter obviously than a normal week. Yeah, I just think the fans will see a lighter side of everybody. I think you’ll still get to see a showcase of s𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁s, which will be quite cool.”

Homa says that TGL is different than traditional golf, and is “unique”, “It’s not like professional golf, but it’s like a fun style of golf with very good professionals.” Well, that is a way to put things! He thinks that TGL will allow fans to see golf from a different standpoint; “Hopefully be able to learn some things about what we see and what we’re trying to do with certain golf shots because it’s a much more intimate setting, much looser setting,” said Homa.

Sure, the pricing might be eye-watering, but it’s hard to deny that TGL brings something truly unique to the table. Yes, sure the team format is like LIV’s but technology does add an exciting element to it. You sure could get an exclusive, up-close experience that goes beyond traditional tournaments. But that is your decision to make.

What can you expect from the 2025 TGL?

Imagine standing just a few feet away from golf legends like Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Xander Schauffele, and Justin Thomas—players whose every swing you’ve admired from afar. That’s exactly what TGL offers in an intimate setting in the 1,500-seat SoFi Center, built specifically for this league.

Co-founded by Woods and McIlroy, TGL is set to kick off in January and run through March. What’s special this time is its innovative setup of a massive 64-foot by 46-foot simulator paired with three virtual greens in a sprawling 3,800 square feet of putting space. Sounds like a perfect fusion of tech and golf! Schauffele echoed the same, sharing his excitement, “I think it’s very exciting. Sort of our first mesh of golf and technology being sort of mashed together on an entertainment platform.”

The first matchup in the TGL schedule takes place on January 7, featuring Xander Schauffele’s New York Golf Club going head-to-head with The Bay Golf Club featuring Ludvig Åberg, Wyndham Clark, Min Woo Lee, and Shane Lowry. Scheuffele’s team also has Matt Fitzpatrick, Rickie Fowler, and Cameron Young on the roster. On the second day of play, on January 14, Woods’s Jupiter Links GC will go against Morikawa’s LAGC.

This league is not just special for the players participating but for fans as well. “I think it will be exciting for fans to watch, and I think it will be an opportunity for us to enjoy,” said Thomas per Golf Monthly.

So, would you shell out the big bucks for a TGL ticket to get that exclusive experience, or would you rather prefer watching it from the comforts of your home? Let us know in the comments!
