Gal Gadot’s comments on a Wonder Woman 3 led by James Gunn and Peter Safran may be surprising to fans
After reports of Patty Jenkins’ plans for Wonder Woman 3 were scrapped in the aftermath of the hiring of James Gunn and Peter Safran as DC Studios co-heads, it seemed like there was no hope for those who wanted to see another feature-length appearance of Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman. (Gadot did appear for a short time in this summer’s The Flash movie, following a brief cameo in Shazam: Fury of the Gods earlier this year.) And yet, a Wonder Woman 3 project featuring Gal Gadot may actually happen.
In an exclusive interview with ComicBook.com, Gal Gadot has shared that, from what she understands, she will be involved in developing a third Wonder Woman movie alongside Gunn and Safran. “From what I heard from James and from Peter is that we’re gonna develop a ‘Wonder Woman 3’ together,” she said.
This may come as a bit of a surprise, as it seemed from information released so far that James Gunn and Peter Safran were planning to start with a clean slate in regards to their plans for the DCU, even if that meant leaving behind previously popular casting like Henry Cavill’s Superman.
Since those plans were originally announced, James Gunn has gone on record as saying that Zolo Mariduena’s Blue Beetle and “a handful of other characters” will continue into the new DCU. Does this mean that Gal Gadot’s Diana will be one of those characters – and if so, this raises some interesting questions about crossing over universes and timelines. (James Gunn’s new Superman movie is meant to portray a younger Clark Kent, played by David Corenswet, replacing Cavill.)
Of course, Wonder Woman is ancient and does not age, meaning that there’s some wiggle room there for continuity nerds. And worst case scenario, they could probably throw some multiverse jargon at the problem.
