Kylian Mbappé will be one of the top players for the foreseeable future that many kids are going to admire. However, that admiration could start after Newcastle United’s Kieran Trippier revealed a hilarious story regarding his son and the 24-year-old winger.
Ahead of the Matchday 2 UEFA Champions League contest on Wednesday at St. James’ Park, Trippier told reporters that his son is a fan of his and would prefer to enter the field holding the Frenchman’s hand.
“He is obsessed with Mbappé,” Trippier told reporters (h/t Paris Fans). “He watches all his videos on YouTube. He told me he wanted to go on the pitch with him [on Wednesday] and hold his hand in the tunnel rather than mine! I told him that if that happened, he was not allowed to look at me in the hallway.”
Furthermore, the 33-year-old noted his respect for the 2018 FIFA World Cup after past encounters on the pitch.
“I played against him when he was starting out with Monaco at the time when I was playing at Tottenham,” Trippier added. “I also played against him for England on my international debut. He’s a fantastic player; you want to play against the best in the world, and this is the case.”
PSG will need a healthy Mbappé if they want to leave St. James’ Park with all three points. The Ligue 1 giants can begin to have a stranglehold on the Group of Death. A win would mean they secure six of six points after the first two matchdays.
Considering the hostile environment, it won’t be an easy task, but it’s doable with the quality of players at PSG.
