‘Best player on the park’: Sky Sports pundit left wowed by £45m Chelsea player in EFL Cup win tonight

Sky Sports pundit Glenn Murray was left wowed by the ability of Chelsea attacker Cole Palmer in tonight’s EFL Cup tie against Blackburn Rovers.

He claimed during his coverage for ‘Gillette Labs Soccer Special’ that the 21-year-old was levels above anyone on the pitch especially during the first half of their victory in the quarter-finals of the competition.

Palmer was one of many of last week’s starters who were retained from the beginning again for the Round of 16 tie, despite defeat to West London rivals Brentford.

In that derby day loss, the former Manchester City man was easily Chelsea’s best performer. Anything they created came through him.

He kept this up tonight with an emphatic performance against lower league opposition, helping Mauricio Pochettino’s side to an important victory at Stamford Bridge.

Murray was left in awe of the £45m deadline day signing whilst covering the game, claiming he looked the most impressive player in Blue on the pitch.

He said: “The best player on the park is Palmer. He just looks levels above everybody.”

Chelsea await the draw now to see who they will face in the next round of the competition, however will surely fancy their chances at booking their place at Wembley at least.

Both pre-tournament favourites Manchester City and Arsenal have already been eliminated, while a number of other Premier League sides exited today.

Despite the poor form in the league, a strong showing in at least one of the domestic cups will go a long way to seeing the supporters get onside with Pochettino.
