Manchester United travel to the East Midlands this evening for their final game of 2023 against Nottingham Forest in the Premier League
Manchester United travel to Nottingham Forest this evening hoping to end their year with a bang in the Premier League.
The Reds gave their fans plenty to cheer about in their last home match of 2023 on Boxing Day. Having found themselves 2-0 down to Aston Villa, United rallied superbly as Alejandro Garnacho’s brace and Rasmus Hojlund’s winner secured the three points.
Forest are also buoyant under new boss Nuno Espirito Santo and are on a high after beating Newcastle United last time out. There will likely be a familiar face in the home team’s line-up this evening as Anthony Elanga continues to move from strength-to-strength in the east Midlands.
Goalkeeper – Andre Onana
Following his call-up to the Cameroon national team squad, this shall be Onana’s last match before AFCON. Some may argue this would be a good time to pick Altay Bayindir but Erik ten Hag is likely to stick to his first choice until the last possible moment.
Defenders – Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Jonny Evans, Raphael Varane, Luke Shaw
Sadly for United fans they will not get one of their wishes against Forest. Ten Hag confirmed on Saturday morning Shaw was still suffering his injury and as such it would be the same team available which beat Villa.
We can imagine therefore that Diogo Dalot will likely be chosen to play in the unnatural left-back role ahead of Sergio Reguilon who finds himself out of favour. The rest of the defence picks itself.
Midfielders – Kobbie Mainoo, Bruno Fernandes, Christian Eriksen
Eriksen showed his importance to the United squad in the comeback victory over Villa and is unlikely to lose his place this evening. Fernandes also put in one of his best displays for some time too.
Mainoo continues to learn but is one of the brightest sparks in this side at present.
Forwards – Alejandro Garnacho, Rasmus Hojlund, Marcus Rashford
The United trio enjoyed one of their best performances of the season and were crucial in the victory over Unai Emery’s men. Hojlund will hopefully be full of confidence after his goal while Garnacho is the Reds’ new undroppable.
