Los Angeles Angels star Mike Trout is the latest MLB player to offer his thoughts on the death of Willie Mays.
Moments ago, Trout posted a heartfelt message about Mays’ impact on the sport.
“I’m saddened by the passing of legend Willie Mays, one of the greatest baseball players of all time with a remarkable impact on the game,” Trout wrote. “Thank you for everything you gave us, Rest in Peace! #24.”
Trout is absolutely right about Ways having a “remarkable impact” on the MLB.
Mays was a 24-time All-Star and two-time MVP over the course of his career. He also won a World Series with the Giants in 1954.
Before Trout paid tribute to Mays on social media, Ken Griffey Jr. released a statement on this devastating loss.
“I’m at a loss for words. I’m devastated. Heartbroken. Numb,” Griffey said. “I’ve been lucky enough to know Willie since I was a little kid. And my appreciation only grew over time. From the stories, the videos and then meeting him. He was a true giant off and on the field. A person I looked up to and respected. A friend. And someone I could call when I needed to talk who always had time for me, and my best interests in mind. I considered him an uncle, and, to me, he’ll always be the Godfather of all center fielders.”
Make no mistake about it, Mays will be missed by baseball fans everywhere.
