Former NBA GM Gets Real On Kyrie Irving Recruiting LeBron James To The Mavericks

In Dallas, the Mavericks are still in shock over their disastrous season, which ended with the team not even making the play-in tournament. Even with the combined efforts of Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, the Mavs never looked like a contender and you could see it from the jump.

So when it was leaked that Kyrie Irving recently tried recruiting LeBron James to come join him in Dallas, it wasn’t a huge surprise to anyone who had been paying attention. Sadly for Mavs fans, the odds of such a scenario happening are still slim. In a recent appearance on G-Bag Nation on 105.3 The Fan [KRLD-FM], former NBA GM Bobby Marks was honest about why he believes LeBron will not be headed to Dallas.

“I just thought, it’s basically going fishing and some people bit on it,” Marks said. “That’s my belief here and I get it. Hey, Kyrie, all power to him as far as trying to get, if LeBron was a free agent, I would say, ‘This is a story here.’ Like, how much is Kyrie willing to get back? And would LeBron come on the vet minimum? And all these different scenarios. I just think where he’s under contract. There is a comfort level with him being in Los Angeles, we’ll see. The likelihood is that he’s still going to play. If this is next offseason and he declined his option, I think it’s a story. I don’t think it’s a story right now. I just don’t believe that.”

Kyrie has been connected to LeBron James all season long thanks to his status as an impending free agent. This summer, Irving will get to choose where he goes and it’s no secret that L.A. and Dallas are his top choices.

As for LeBron, his only words to Kyrie were that he’ll “think about it,” but nobody ultimately knows what his next move will be.

Will LeBron Really Join The Mavs?

The Lakers have a lot to consider this offseason and the path to building a contender will not be an easy one for Rob Pelinka and the crew. If worse comes to worst, LeBron could try to force his way out and head to the Mavericks, but there is significant doubt that he’d go that route.

When it comes to the King, we know that his family comes first and Bronny’s commitment to USC will likely keep LeBron where he’s at for the foreseeable future.

Either way, LeBron and Kyrie will be a focal point this offseason and nobody should be surprised if they find some way to link up together for one more run.
