Nick Kyrgios may be yet to catch his first major tennis title, but the controversial character could be the most accomplished Pokemon trainer on the ATP Tour.
That’s after the Australian unveiled the early results of a huge back tattoo based around the Japanese animation, featuring some of the most powerful Pokemon from the original 151. The early line-draw shows well-known ‘pocket monsters’ like Blastoise, Gyarados, Mewtwo, Alakazam, Snorlax and Dragonite, along with several other stars from the show and games.

And a high-quality piece calls for high-quality artists as Kyrgios visited Ganga Tattoo in Los Angeles to get the work done. And in an effort to save some time, the 28-year-old was at one point worked on by four illustrators at once, getting the basic outline of the whole back done in just one hour.
“Five artists at once at one of the best studios in the world,” said the 2022 Wimbledon runner-up. “Wish me luck, back is getting completely covered.”

Kyrgios’ Instagram upload showed the lines being drawn before the trio in question moved to the shading stage. Despite not being very active on the court thus far in 2023, there are few in the sport who can match the firebrand’s incredible ink.
“Lit,” commented Kyrgios’ sister, Halimah. “Cannot wait to see it all done, always your favourite since you were little. POKEMON!”

Girlfriend Costeen Hatzi appeared to be in the dark over the artwork and responded simply: “Omg.”
Kyrgios previously stated his affection for the Pokemon: Go mobile game at the height of its popularity back in 2016. He was playing in Canada when he took to social media to describe his affection, and it appears that love of all things Pokemon has only grown since then.
“Just quietly, how good is Pokemon Go,” asked the Australian at a time when he should have been focusing on his Rogers Cup duties. “Honestly been playing that more than tennis.”
His new back tat might have required significantly more than his on-court playing time so far this year to be completed were it not for the team effort. But it won’t be long at all until the masterpiece is complete with multiple artists on the job.
