It has been 27 years since the first Mission Impossible was released, and since then Tom Cruise has been playing as the protagonist in all the movies. With crossing the $4 billion the Mission Impossible franchise is considered among the biggest franchise in the world. All thanks to the action-packed drama and of course the legendary Hollywood actor Tom Cruise, also the face of the Mission Impossible franchise.

However, the latest part of the franchise Mission Impossible- Dead Reckoning Part One premiered on 12th July 2023 around the entire world and the film received positive reviews from both critics and audiences. The film grossed around $563 million worldwide but compared to its expensive budget it fell short and had to go through a box office disaster.

Even after making more than half a billion dollars worldwide, Mission Impossible- Dead Reckoning Part One couldn’t gather the tag of profitable. The budget was so high that it made the franchise suffer by approx. $40 million and it was said a min earning of $600 million was needed to make it a box-office success.

It has been said that the seventh installment of Tom Cruise’s Mission Impossible hasn’t ended their run in a flop if wouldn’t have clashed with Oppenheimer and Barbie. Just after the release of Mission Impossible- Dead Reckoning Part One, both highly anticipated films of this year Oppenheimer and Barbie premiered. The effect of Barbenheimer made the Tom Cruise starer film look small and it couldn’t justify its budget anymore, making it the second lowest-grossing film of all time in the $4 billion franchise.

The film does have a power cast which consists of Tom Cruise, Vanessa Kirby, and Rebecca Ferguson but even after that, it couldn’t last the wave of Barbenheimer. However, presently, it has improved a bit with a recent insurance payout after a lawsuit.

The Mission Impossible- Dead Reckoning Part One did receive a major insurance payout which is supposed to fill the gap of loss that was created at the box office. According to Collider, the production house of the film, Paramount received a massive amount of $71 million from a Swiss insurance company, Chubb. The lawsuit was filed because Mission Impossible- Dead Reckoning Part One had to go through production interruptions caused by COVID-19 and that made the production cost higher than expected.

Paramount originally received a payment of $5.5 million but after filing the lawsuit it did increase the sum of the payout to a massive amount. There is no denying that no other franchise except Mission Impossible was affected more due to COVID-19. It has been also reported that due to production interruptions, the cost of the film went up to $291 million making it one of the most expensive films of all time.

The enormous budget made it impossible for the film to register its name into the list of box office profits and it even compelled the production house to file a lawsuit for gain. Typically, a movie needs to make twice the budget it spends in its production to get the tag of hit but the latest installment of Mission Impossible couldn’t fetch it. However, after the massive insurance payout, it has somehow managed to be on the list of hits. Another installment of the Mission Impossible franchise is in production currently, and it will be coming out in 2024.
