Only Black Governor in the U.S. Since 2019 Interviewed By Students at Prestigious School in Maryland

The highest-ranking official in the U.S. Virgin Islands (USVI), Governor Albert Bryan Jr., recently held a 45-minute virtual Q&A with 200+ Black students at Thomas S. Wootton High School in Rockville, Maryland (in the Washington, DC area). Bryan is currently the only African-American Governor in the United States since 2019, and this made the occasion a huge privilege for the students at this top-performing, prestigious high school who were able to interview and interact with him as part of a special Black History Month program.

The program with Governor Bryan was led by the students themselves from various groups and organizations within the school. It was also filmed and broadcast live by OUR TV Network, a Black-owned television network that can be viewed on Apple TV, Android TV, Fire TV, Roku, Time Warner Cable, and FIOS via Tempo TV.

Dr. Nkem Annabel Okeke, host of OUR TV Network’s new show Value 360, and songstress Tracy Hamlin, were also part of the program for this very historic presentation. As the Liaison for the African American Parent-Student Network (AAPSN) who works with other parents to enrich the 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥ren’s educational experience, Dr. Okeke worked diligently with the school’s leadership and played a key role in making this special opportunity possible for the students.

To make this news report even more dynamic, it should be noted that Kimberly Boldon, the Principal of Thomas S. Wootton High School, is currently the first Black woman to ever serve in this position at the school in its entire 52-year history. Under her leadership, it has become one of the country’s top-performing high schools academically with a 95% graduation rate.

“Our TV network is pleased to have been able to capture this spectacular event live, and we will continue to cover other local and national topics of interest like this,” says Carolyn E. Howell, Executive Producer of OUR TV, DMV.
