Man Utd face Manchester City at Old Trafford in the 191st edition of the derby and supports have had their say on who Erik ten Hag should pick.
Manchester United welcome Manchester City to Old Trafford later this afternoon and supporters have called for Mason Mount’s return to the starting line-up.
Erik ten Hag’s side go into the 191st Manchester derby off the back of three straight wins, having beaten FC Copenhagen in the Champions League on Tuesday. That victory followed similar results against Brentford and Sheffield United either side of the international break.
Mount was benched for the last two games and did not come on at all midweek, but Ten Hag that the 24-year-old could be selected to feature this afternoon. And United fans have seemingly agreed, opting to harness the midfielder’s energy for derby day.
Mount has been picked to start over Christian Eriksen, who did come off the bench on Tuesday and was arguably United’s best player. They will hope to get their creative spark from Bruno Fernandes, who played on the right in this fixture last season but has been kept central this time around.
Defensive midfield is a position very much up for grabs at United and Casemiro is facing a race against time to be fit. The Brazilian has been in training since Monday but fans don’t believe he will make it – either that or they prefer Sofyan Amrabat.
Further forward, Antony has retained his place on the right wing despite another unconvincing performance midweek. The winger is yet to register a single goal or assist this season but remains the only senior option, with Jadon Sancho still exiled.
United fans have picked their team to face City.
Rasmus Hojlund has three goals to his name but none have come in the Premier League. The Danish international has already won the hearts of fans and they have given him the chance to become an instant hero, with Marcus Rashford called upon to replicate last season’s winner on the right.
Ten Hag’s defence just about picks itself at the minute, with so many injuries at the back. Aaron Wan-Bissaka is back in training but unlikely to be fit in time, and Diogo Dalot is enjoying a strong run of form at right-back.
Harry Maguire was the hero in midweek and the 30-year-old is enjoying a mini-resurgence in the absence of Lisandro Martinez. Supporters have backed him to partner Raphael Varane once again, tasking the pair with keeping Erling Haaland quiet.
On-loan Sergio Reguilon is United’s only fit left-back and will keep his place, with Andre Onana hoping to build on Tuesday’s added-time penalty save in goal.
