Reports have claimed that Chelsea believe that Bayer Leverkusen youngster Florian Wirtz could be their absolute perfect signing.
According to TeamTALK, the Blues believe the player’s versatility is ideal for what they are looking for in a potential signing.
Wirtz has enjoyed a sensational campaign so far this season, working hard under Xabi Alonso to improve his game.
The former Liverpool and Real Madrid midfielder has also been one of the people to praise the attacker the most. He recently compared his abilities to those of Lionel Messi.
He said: “There are good players and there are players who look good on the pitch. The player who looks good does things that are nice, but not necessarily efficient.
“Why is Messi so good? Because he knows how and when to play simple passes. Messi says: ‘You’re in a better position? Here, there you have the ball!’ It’s not always about making the most brilliant move, but the best and smartest. Florian can do that. That’s why he’s so good.”
Chelsea leading race for Wirtz
With the 20-year-old’s abilities clear to see right now, it is perhaps not surprising that a number of elite sides have been linked with his signature.
However, now it has been stated that Chelsea are one of the Premier League sides who are leading the race for his signature.
Many will be hoping if he is brought in that he has a better time of things at Stamford Bridge than the last big-money attacker they got.
Kai Havertz came in with very similar promise, however his time in West London has to be seen as underwhelming before he moved on.
Wirtz meanwhile is likely to cost even more, with a fee of at least £87m being discussed as placed on his head.
