The best place for snake plants

The snake plant can be grown outdoors in medium to full sun or in a bright indoor space with indirect light. This upright plants tolerate low light, but this will make it grow slower.

Proper watering

Loving this plant doesn’t mean you have to water it a lot. This plant dislike being over-watered, which leads the plant to rot and infected with pests or fungi. Make sure the is completely dry before watering. You can water the plant once every two to eight weeks, depending on home environment and soil type. Water the snake plant less frequently in winter.

Proper humidity

There’s a reason the snake plant is known as a diehard plant. This is due to the fact that this plant does not mind stale or dry air in the house. You can place it in a spot with normal humidity, like the living room, or place it in a spot with higher humidity, like the bathroom. The snake plant will do well there.

Pest infestation

Proper care will make the snake plant highly pest-resistant. However, if you ignore it for a long time, the snake plant can get infested pests such as mealybugs or spider mites. If you see the pest on it, take action immediately. You can clean infected leaves with a special liquid that’s safe for snake plant itself.

Propagation 

More snake plants in the room will be more effective in purifying the air. You can propagate a snake plant by root division or by cutting off a healthy leaf and then growing new roots from the cutting in water. The water propagation method is a fun one to do, even though it takes a couple of weeks to make the snake plant ready to be planted on the potting soil.

Fertilizer

You don’t have to fertilize it too often. Do it at a distance, as this diehard plant will not die even without fertilizer. You can apply organic compost once or twice in the spring/summer when they are actively growing. Winter is a dormant state, so let the snake plant rest without fertilizing it.

Soil for snake plants

If you notice, the snake plant survives well in the same potting soil as cacti and succulents. Make sure it’s a light, loamy, and well-draining soil mix. Soil that retains water for too long will trigger root rot and torture the snake plant.
