‘Honestly’… TalkSPORT pundit says £52m Chelsea player could struggle to get into Mauricio Pochettino’s team now

Former Chelsea player Scott Minto is struggling to see where Christopher Nkunku is going to play after he returns from injury.

Christopher Nkunku is hoping to be back after the international break, but Scott Minto, speaking on talkSPORT (13/11/2023 at 08:18), has questioned where the Frenchman is going to start.

Chelsea‘s current forwards, Cole Palmer, Raheem Sterling and Nicolas Jackson have all been on fire lately.

All three of those players scored in the Blues’ 4-4 draw with Manchester City yesterday. For Jackson, it was his fourth goal in two games.

Scott Minto unsure about who Christopher Nkunku replaces

With the form Chelsea’s attackers are in right now, Minto is not sure who drops out for Nkunku.

Discussing the 25-year-old on talkSPORT, he said: “Honestly, I am thinking just as I’m sitting down… Nkunku to come back sounds great, but who does he replace? Cole Palmer probably has been Chelsea’s best player.

“Raheem Sterling you could argue is Chelsea’s best player at the moment and how he’s not in the England squad I don’t know. I think something has happened there. Then you have Conor Gallagher, and the energy he brings but also he has shown a lot of maturity and quality on the ball.

“I don’t know where Nkunku gets in, maybe for Jackson himself but I think the way he is scoring… But what you do have is strength in depth.”

Christopher Nkunku has to start

Chelsea paid a lot of money for Nkunku, signing him from RB Leipzig in a £52m deal, as reported by BBC Sport.

The France international has shown that he is a really good goalscorer over the last two seasons, netting 36 goals in 59 Bundesliga appearances.

At some point, Nkunku is going to have to get a fair run in this team, so it really will be interesting to see who makes way for him.

It would not really be meritocratic if any of Chelsea’s current attackers were dropped for Nkunku, while it would also be harsh if Conor Gallagher lost his spot to accommodate the former Leipzig man.

The England international put in another terrific performance against City over the weekend. It was his strike that Ederson could not hold, resulting in Jackson getting the rebound and making the score 3-3 on the afternoon.

Still, looking at what Nkunku can bring to the table, you would expect Mauricio Pochettino to drop someone in order to get the former Paris Saint-Germain player into his side.
