Manchester United have returned to the training ground this week ahead of Saturday’s trip to West Ham in the Premier League.
Erik ten Hag will be looking to build on their resilient draw against Liverpool the previous weekend when they pay a visit to David Moyes’ squad. But the Reds will be leery of taking on the Iron, a wounded beast.
The Merseyside team defeated the Hammers 5-1 at Anfield on Wednesday night, sending them out of the Carabao Cup with little fanfare. Moyes will definitely be watching his team to see how they respond, thus United needs to exercise caution in the capital.
The boys have been back at Carrington getting their work done before heading south. This is what we observed.
Onana’s new regime
It has become common practice during United training sessions for the ‘keepers to do their own thing while the outfield players focus on what they need to work on. However, with playing out from the back being such a crucial element of football these days, this approach does seem outdated.

Ten Hag appears to have noticed this and has brought Onana into the outfield training sessions this week where he appears to have been involved in a close-quarters drill with his teammates. The Cameroonian has bee criticised for his distribution since joining United so this change of training regime could look to rectify this problem.
Van de Beek still involved
Eintracht Frankfurt are confident they have got Van de Beek snapped up in January. Ten Hag even claimed a couple of weeks ago a departure is needed for the good of his career.
However, there was no signs of him slacking off as he took part in training. He was pictured alongside the returning Bruno Fernandes who is back after a one-match suspension.
