If you’ve ever wondered what your favorite athletes or celebrities were like growing up, the people who know them best are about to provide those answers.
Co-hosted by Sonya Curry and Lucille O’Neal, the mothers of basketball superstars Steph Curry and Shaquille O’Neal, “Raising Fame” will include visits to homes and local communities of superstar parents. It premieres Sunday on TV ONE.
Both mothers joined Good Morning Arizona on Tuesday to talk their sons and the new show.
Sonya Curry talked about the process of raising three 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥ren while her husband, Dell, played in the NBA himself.
“You have to constantly remind them to dream themselves and to not just follow in the footsteps,” she said. “But it just so happened that my boys, their dream was the NBA, and they made it!”
The show is certain to invoke a range of emotions with stories from funny 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥hood memories to heartbreaks while growing up.
Lucille O’Neal said it was initially hard learning she would be a mother at just 17 years old.
“It was my mother that helped me carry that burden because she reminded me out of all of my four 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥ren that Shaquille would be very, very special, and he would make a huge contribution to the world because of the unique personality that he has and just being a unique individual, different from all of his peers,” she said. “What I learned being a parent is that it’s a huge responsibility whether we want it or not.”
Season 1 will feature parents of the following celebrities: Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant, Danielle Brooks, Chance the Rapper, Billy Porter, Fantasia, Magic Johnson, John Legend, Jon Batiste, Usher and the late Chadwick Boseman.
