Bedrick of Long Island, New York, appeared in court in Central Islip Friday morning in a wheelchair, WABC reported.

According to prosecutors, Bedrick was drunk and high on drugs while driving.

They said she drove in the wrong direction for five miles on the Southern State Parkway before causing a four-car crash.

Prosecutors told the judge that a drug recognition expert at the hospital found that Bedrick was on drugs when she crashed, the publication reported.

This came after police found pills in her car.

Bedrick said she took methamphetamines at 8 pm the night before the crash and was also under the influence of alcohol.

She pleaded not guilty to felony aggravated DWI and operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs, per WABC.

She was driving without a license at the time of the crash and was previously arrested twice for DWIs.

Prosecutors said Bedrick’s driver’s license had previously been suspended 56 times.

She will be held on $1 million cash bail, the outlet reported.

However, her attorney portrayed her as a victim and asked the judge for “a more reasonable bail” so she can attend her son’s funeral.

Bedrick was seeking multiple treatments for spina bifida and narcolepsy.

Her lawyer said she is also a domestic violence victim.

“My client was a victim,” the attorney said.

“She was on medication that was prescribed for her.

“She is in denial, has not absorbed what happened to her and her son’s death,” he continued.

“In my 39 years, this is probably one of the most tragic cases that I’ve been involved in,” the judge told Bedrick, per WABC.

Bedrick is due to return to court on August 29.

A grand jury will hear the case, and charges will likely be upgraded, the outlet reported.
