Boston Celtics Eyeing Talented Pistons Big Man This Summer

The Boston Celtics have a long summer ahead after they couldn’t beat the eighth-seeded Miami Heat to go to their second consecutive NBA Finals. Despite coming back from 3-0 to make it 3-3, the Celtics collapsed in Game 7 and need to re-tool this summer.

The Celtics are already looking at adding pieces to their roster this summer, with the team reportedly inquiring about talented Pistons’ big man Isaiah Stewart.

It’s likely the Pistons hold on to Stewart due to how highly they rate him, as was indicated by the journalist that revealed Celtics had called to ask for Stewart’s value.

Stewart averaged 11.3 points and 8.1 rebounds last season. He needs to find his place in a very crowded frontcourt rotation in Detroit, as he is competing for minutes with James Wiseman, Jalen Duren, and Marvin Bagley III, which could cause his opportunities to fluctuate throughout the year.

Is Boston Targeting The Right Players?

The Celtics had a very complete roster with very few flaws in terms of how they were constructed. Their biggest flaw was the lack of size beyond Al Horford and Robert Williams, especially with Williams missing time over the course of last season. Stewart is a versatile big that can hold his own defensively and has been developing offensive chops. He could play in place of either Williams or Horford as a forward or center.

Due to the Pistons’ frontcourt depth, this was a smart target to make as the team will be expected to move on from at least one of their four options right now. Making marginal moves is what the Celtics should target, especially with the pressure mainstream media outlets are trying to put on them to acquire someone like Bradley Beal.
