The superyacht of US billionaire Jeff Bezos has been revealed after 5 years of construction. The world’s tallest superyacht with a height of 70 meters is expected to be handed over to billionaire Bezos in the next few months.
Billionaire Bezos, the founder of e-commerce company Amazon, is currently the third richest person in the world with a fortune of about $118 billion, according to Forbes.
Billionaire Bezos ordered his own superyacht in 2018. After 5 years of construction, this superyacht has been completed.
The superyacht is named Koru, which means “new beginning” in the language of the Maori people of New Zealand. The superyacht is expected to be officially handed over to billionaire Bezos in the next few months.
The superyacht is 127 meters long and 70 meters high, which is about half the length and height of the great pyramid of Giza.
The reason why billionaire Bezos’ superyacht has a record height is because of the use of 3 large masts. The cost of maintaining Koru superyacht is said to be not small, up to 25 million USD/year.
3 masts help the superyacht take advantage of a large amount of wind power during travel, instead of relying entirely on diesel engines.
Billionaire Bezos accepts the need for a support boat that always moves with the superyacht. The support boat is 76 meters long, has a helipad, spacious storage space for cars, speedboats and even a mini-submarine,
The $500 million superyacht is a project undertaken by Dutch-based shipbuilder Oceanco. This company has decades of experience building large superyachts for the super rich, with the longest size up to 160 meters.
During construction and testing, the superyacht was so large that it could not cross the Koningshaven bridge in the Netherlands. Billionaire Bezos once asked the local authorities to dismantle the 95-year-old bridge and will spend all the money to rebuild. But this offer was rejected.
Billionaire Bezos then accepted to modify some superyacht designs that can move under the bridge safely.
