Neymar and Kylian Mbappe are at the top of Sheikh Jassim’s transfer wish list following Man United’s newest takeover.

The latest news from the Manchester United takeover process on Monday, July 3.

Manchester United are busy working away in the transfer market looking ahead to next season but in the background the club’s takeover saga continues to rumble on.

United are nearing the completion of the potential £60m signing of Mason Mount from Chelsea. The midfielder has been at the club’s Carrington training ground for a medical before becoming Erik ten Hag’s first acquisition of the summer.

However, neither Sir Jim Ratcliffe nor Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani are any closer to being granted exclusivity and ultimately taking over at Old Trafford. It follows months of negotiations and bids being put to the Glazer family, but there is no conclusion in sight to the process as things stand.

Here’s the latest news on the takeover as of Monday, July 3.

Sheikh Jassim’s Galactico approach

If Sheikh Jassim’s bid to take over United proves to be a successful one, then there could be quite a revolving door at Old Trafford this summer.

According to the Daily Express, the Qatari wants to go down the Galactico route which Real Madrid have been famous for down the years. The report highlights transfer links with the likes of PSG duo Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.

United have a poor track record when it comes to signing big names for big fees. However, it has recently been claimed that they have an interest in Brazilian star Neymar, and that Shiekh Jassim is also ‘tempted’ by the prospect of bringing Mbappe to Old Trafford.

Sheikh Jassim ‘confident’ of success

Sheikh Jassim’s bid is different to Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s in one key aspect: the Qatari approach would involve United being taken over completely, while Ratcliffe would own a majority stake with the Glazer family remaining at Old Trafford.

And Reports have suggested Sheikh Jassim is growing increasingly confident of purchasing United ahead of Sir Jim’s INEOS corporation.

“Still, we have the same situation where Nine Two Foundation and INEOS are in the process,” journalist Ben Jacobs told GiveMeSport.

“Maybe the only difference at this point is that there’s a real feeling on the Qatar side that it will now be a case of them being successful, or a no sale, possibly with some kind of financing baked in.

“So, instead of Qatar looking this as them vs Ratcliffe, which has been the narrative for much of the takeover, I think Nine Two Foundation feel like it’s about whether they’re picked or whether the Glazers opt for a no sale with some form of financing, then put the club on the market at a later date.”
