The 2018 NBA Draft was one of the best ones in the modern era, with multiple players already playing in All-Star games and making All-NBA teams. Collin Sexton could’ve been one of those players, as he was drafted with the No. 8 overall pick by the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The Cavs were coming off the NBA Finals but were contending with the inevitability of LeBron James leaving the team that summer. Sexton was drafted before free agency, so he made a hilarious pitch to LeBron to stay minutes after being drafted.
“Man, LeBron let’s do it! I see you need a few pieces! Let’s go back to the finals! Let’s do it!”
Unsurprisingly, LeBron left the Cavs for the Los Angeles Lakers that summer. The Cavs were in a rebuild with Sexton, as he averaged 20.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 3.3 assists in four seasons with them.
He was sent to the Utah Jazz in the Donovan Mitchell trade and averaged 14.3 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 2.9 assists in 48 games last season, hoping to have a breakout season next year.
Will LeBron James Have A Cleveland Homecoming?
With James a free agent this summer, the prospect of James returning to Cleveland and leading their extremely solid young core to a title has been floated around. If the Cavs can also get Bronny James through the NBA Draft, it may be the perfect situation for LeBron.
The Cavs made their first playoff appearance without LeBron in multiple decades this season, so they can easily move to contention by slowly developing their core. But if James is willing to come back to Cleveland and bring another title to his home city, it’ll be the perfect way to wrap up one of the greatest careers in league history.
