Erling Haaland was rapping in a group with his 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥hood mates long before he was slamming in goals for fun at Manchester City.
A video of their group ‘Flow Kingz’ singing the song ‘Kygo jo’ went viral a few years ago, after it became clear that City striker Haaland was destined for fame on the football field rather than the recording booth.
The song’s music video featured a young Haaland hanging out with his buddies Erik Sandberg and Erik Botheim, both of whom are now professional footballers.
The movie, which you can watch below, shows the trio goofing around and executing dancing movements in various settings around their community, such as a volleyball court and a 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥ren’s play area.
Haaland is shown rapping while holding BBQ utensils in one image, and peeking his head out of a playhouse window in another.
If the video wasn’t strange enough, the song’s lyrics have subsequently been translated into English and are as unusual, particularly Haaland’s verses.
Check them out below.
Erik Botheim: “Hello. How are you? I haven’t seen you lately. Have you gone astray? I’ve been making a song and I earned a thousand millions. By the way, I’ve also been buying a gas grill. If you were wondering I’ve also been to the store. I have been shopping a lot because I have a lot of cash. Of course, I’ll tell this to you my friend because I know that you don’t have too much money left.”
Erik Sandberg: “Yes, you can say that is nice. You did make my day, I’m very grateful for that. We are going to buy a mobile phone with subscription without a commitment period, which I will use during the whole day.”
Erling Haaland: “Boys can you stop talking, now it did get so cosy. Talk about world crisis, I think it is much more important. Boys I’m Lyng and everyone knows me. I’m the one that people can see on the TV. I even look good when I eat, I think that’s right.”
All three: “Kygo yes!”
Erik Botheim: “In the past I was outside and I ate Caesar salad. For such a big guy like me, I need good food. I also went to the Bahamas on a trip but I didn’t tell my wife so she got a bit angry. But I had a good time, it was so good. I would like to get back here and now but I have a lot to do in the office during the day. So let’s go out and get some food in our stomach.”
Erik Sandberg: “Yeah let’s do it. I’ll be happy to join. Let me take you to a wonderful, beautiful place. I don’t remember what it’s called but it’s on a summer mountain pasture. I don’t think it’s far, just a few miles. The last time I was there I saw something strange. It was strange that I couldn’t think clearly. But I’m not going to bother you with my boring story. Let’s listen to what Lyng says.”

Erik Botheim: “Yes that’s catchy Lyng. Something that’s also catchy is this Kygo instrumental. Which I think gives the song a whole new dimension, like the top of a tower cake.”
Erling Haaland: “Yes but I can’t dance to Kygo.”
Erik Botheim: “You know what Lyng, me and Tommy will show you how to do it.”
Erling Haaland: “Make the music louder!”
Erik Botheim: “Yes, should we?”
Erik Sandberg: “Yes bro!”
All three: “Kygo yes!”
While some of the lyrics were undoubtedly lost in translation, rapping about buying mobile phone subscriptions, gas grills, and salads seems peculiar.
Fortunately, all three lads have now pursued careers in sports rather than music.
